CUGH Global Health Student Poster Competition

Top-scoring student abstracts will be selected for seven poster awards—one for each of the six conference tracks and one for Global Health Education.

2026 Untold Stories of Global
Health Contest

CUGH and Global Health NOW from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health are pleased to announce the 2026 Untold Stories of Global Health Contest. The contest is designed to give a platform to important but underreported global health stories. GHN will select two winning stories to cover; the stories will appear in GHN.

Submission Deadline: November 24, 2025​

  • 2 Winners + 6 Runners-up

  • Winners receive free registration to CUGH 2026

  • All stories selected will be recognized during the conference and in CUGH and GHN communications

Multimedia Reflection in Global Health Contest 2026

This contest invites students and professionals to submit creative reflections on their global health experiences in education, research, or practice.

Open to: Trainees and professionals from undergraduate to postgraduate levels, especially from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs)

Formats Accepted: Essays, artwork, videos, photographs, and case studies

Submission Deadline: January 1, 2026

CUGH Global Health
Video Competition

CUGH's 13th Annual Global Health Video Competition is now open for entries. Open to individuals worldwide—no membership required.  

 

Share a short (under 5 min) video highlighting a global health challenge or a high-impact solution. Winners will be showcased at our 2026 conference in Washington DC

Submission Deadline: November 15, 2025

  • Winner + 2 Honorable Mentions per category

  • Top winners receive free registration to CUGH 2026 (Washington DC)

  • All six recognized videos will be featured at the conference, on CUGH’s website, and in the newsletter.

Support The LLMIC Abstract Presenter Bursary

CUGH Provides 10 Bursaries for free registration, a hotel stay and a travel stipend for LLMIC Abstract Presenters. Donating to this fund will enable us to increase the number of Bursaries. Donations to the Fund are tax-deductible in the US. Donors have the option of having their name included in the conference program. Scholarships will only be available to individuals whose proposals have been accepted.

The Consortium of Universities for Global Health (CUGH) is proud to recognize the accomplishments of individuals and teams who demonstrate exceptional commitment, innovation, and impact in global health. The following awards and opportunities will be presented at the CUGH 2026 Conference.

James G. Hakim Global Health Award

Sponsored by: AFREhealth, CUGH, and the Fogarty International Center (NIH). This award honors the life and legacy of Dr. James Hakim and recognizes emerging global health leaders from Africa.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited African university or within five years of earning a terminal degree

  • Citizen of an African country

  • Primary affiliation with an Africa-based institution

CUGH 2026 Leadership Awards

CUGH celebrates outstanding contributions to global health leadership through three key awards:

  • CUGH Distinguished Leadership Award

  • Dr. Thomas Hall–Dr. Nelson Sewankambo Mid-Career Leadership Award

  • Dr. Wasserheit Young Leader Award​

Dr. Anvar & Pari Velji / CUGH Awards for Global Health Excellence

Sponsored by the Velji Family Foundation, these awards honor exceptional work in global health education, research, and service that demonstrates creativity and commitment to underserved populations.

  • Awardees receive a plaque and $500 to support their ongoing global health activities.

  • CUGH is deeply grateful to Dr. Anvar and Pari Velji for their continued support.
